Sometimes a door is just a door. But sometimes, a door is an opportunity. As I began my journey into leadership, I longed for a mentor, a guide who would navigate beside me as I found my footing. My chosen career path was a solitary one which meant I needed to actively search for assistance. As we sat in a coffee shop discussing my next move, the man who helped launch my writing career told me I was a nice lady, but not much of a leader. Instead of seeing a door close on my objectives, I realized he was not the mentor for me. Instead, I sought better mentors. Mentors who recognized there was more than one way to rise to top. And that's when I thought...maybe I could.
